Welcome to 2012 AWANA Grand Prix central!
Here you will find all kinds of information, CDOBC Official AWANA regulations, and car design ideas.
WHO IS WELCOME? EVERYONE!
The AWANA Grand Prix is a pinewood derby race for all ages in the Oro Valley / Tucson community including racing divisions in AWANA Sparks (K-2nd grade), Truth & Training (3rd-6th grade), Youth (6th-12th grade), Open (all ages not included in K-12), and Super-Modified (an unofficial division where racers can "show their stuff" by racing cars that are a little or a lot non-compliant to the official race car regulations).
Even if you do not plan on racing, we invite you to come out and just enjoy the day! There will an all-day snack bar, and you will be sure to have a great time.

IMPORTANT DATES
1) January 8-February 4: Car Kit Distribution. Purchase your pinewood race car kit ($5) from Darrell or Lisa Horner at AWANA on Wednesday night, or on Sunday morning in the church courtyard.
2) February 4: Workshop, from 9:00 AM - Noon. The workshop is a time where racers can get help completing their cars, using tools and know-how supplied by "experts." Also, the cars can be weighed on the official scales, and run (un-timed) on the track to help judge their performance. Some weights will be available for use/purchase, or you can bring your own.
3) February 11: Official registration from 5:00 PM -8:00 PM. Cars are officially judged for compliance to the regulations, including weight and fit in the inspection box. On that night, some final weight adjustments and lubrication can be made prior to registration. Once compliant, the cars are officially registered and secured by the race officials. After the check-in period, the cars will be reviewed by a panel of judges for various design awards.
4) February 11: Race Day! The first division will start racing at 9:00 AM. Racing will be performed within each division, resulting in the top four cars from each division progressing to the Grand Finals where the fastest car will be decided! (Be prepared to be beaten by a four year old whose car resembles a cartoon character) Awards will be given for speed -1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Design awards include Best Overall Design, Best Workmanship, Best Sports Car, Best Artistic Design, and Best Creative Design. Also, a "Most Consistent Speed" awarded for each division.
