Senior Pastor -- Steve Van Kley (email)

Steve joined the staff of CDOBC in August of 2001. His passion is to see lives changed by the truth and grace of Jesus Christ, and he does this on weekly basis through providing leadership, shepherding, and preaching the Word of God (Listen to Sermons). Steve received his B.A. from Columbia College, his M.Div from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary, and served for 12 years in youth ministry before coming to CDOBC. He is married to Kim, and has two children: Brian and Jessica. Steve enjoys spending time with his family, playing and watching sports, and exercising

 

 


 

Pastor of Student Ministries -- Scott Nichols (email)

Scott loves knowing that his work has eternal consequences, and is passionate about seeing teens dedicate themselves to know more about Christ and see Him reflected in their lives. He joined the staff of CDOBC in August of 2008, where he has poured himself into impacting the middle school and high school for Christ (Check Out Students Page). Scott received his B.S. from Portland State, and both his Grad Certificate in Bible and M.Div from Multnomah Seminary. He has previously ministered as the young adults and college leader at West Hills Baptist church in Portland, Oregon. He is married to Sarah, and enjoys spending his free time with her, as well as reading books on ministry, history, and science fiction and playing video games. 

 

 


Pastor of Music -- Joseph Berko (email)

Joseph joined the staff in June of 2009 where he leads music on Sunday mornings, directs the adult choir, and leads music for the high school youth. He received his BA from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. His passion is to see the Lord use music in the the lives of people--challenging them to become more like Him, and inspiring them to better demonstrate their love for Him (Go to Musical Worship Page). He is married to Kim, and enjoys spending time with her, following University of Michigan football, and reading. 

 

 

 

 

Office Manager -- Debbie Randels (email)

Debbie joined the CDOBC staff in 2009, and has been attending CDOBC since 2006. Her passion is to see women grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and to grow to love others and one another deeply. In addition to being office manager, she also coordinates women's ministry at CDOBC--leading alongside a team of women where she facilitates Tuesday evening Bible study and organizes yearly events for the women (Check Out Women's Ministry). She is married to Kyle and has 3 grown children, and 7 grandchildren. When she is not helping out at CDOBC, she loves spending time with Kyle, her family, and reading. 

 

 



Part-Time Secretary -- Kathie Backer (email)

Kathie is passionate about helping the ministries at CDOBC function to the highest levels. She has been serving at CDOBC since 2003, and has previously provided leadership and secretary assistance to the pastoral staff at First Baptist Church of Tempe for 9 years while also serving on the deaconess board. She is married to Lew and has two grown children, Kim and Tim, and 2 grandchildren. Kathie enjoys stitching, reading, and spending time with her family. 

 

 
   


Part-Time Secretary -- Kim Van Kley (email)

Kim has been on staff since 2005, and at CDOBC since 2001. She is married to Steve, and has two children: Brian and Jessica. Her passion is to help people determine their gifts for serving and to plug them into a ministry position that they would enjoy. In her spare time she likes to spend time with Steve and the kids, read, and serve at CDOBC.




Director of Children's Ministries -- Ashley LeFiles

Ashley has been at CDOBC since 2004, and has served in her current position since 2006 where she works to equip and support the Children's Ministries Sunday School teachers. Her passion is to provide the youngest members of the church body with a positive church experience that they will remember throughout their lives--one that will cause them to want to remain in church their whole life (Go to Children's Ministry Page). She is married to Jeff (14 years), and has three children: Kathleen, Caleb, and Elijah. In her spare time she likes to surf the web for recipes, homeschooling ideas, and crafting projects. She also enjoys reading and handiwork. 

 

 

Director of Nursery -- Alicia McRae

Alicia is passionate to help meet the needs of our "smaller members," share her love with them, and watch them grow in God (Go to Nursery Page). She has been serving with the nursery ministry since 2007, and has been at CDOBC since 2005. Before that she served in other nursery ministries, Sunday School activities, and VBS. She is married to to Clarence (3 years), and has a son Calib. In her free time she enjoys reading, doing arts and crafts with Calib, and taking walks.

 

 


 

AWANA Commander -- Dale Beyer

Dale has been at CDOBC since 1998, which is also the year he took on leadership of AWANA (Go to AWANA Page). He is married to Sheryl, and has two children and one grandchild on the way.
